Your Contact Lens Exam: What to Expect
Ready to ditch the glasses and give contact lenses a try? At Mid America Vision Center, serving York, Hebron, and Geneva, our eye care specialists are experts in helping you find contact lenses that correct your vision comfortably. If you've never worn contact lenses before, it makes sense that you may have some questions about the contact lens exam process. Let's talk about what you can expect when you come in to be fitted for contact lenses.
Getting a Contact Lens Exam
Like any regular eye exam, a contact lens exam begins with our eye doctor checking your vision to see whether your prescription has changed. Our eye care specialist will also talk with you about any problems you may be having with your eyes, such as allergy issues or dry eyes, as these problems can affect your ability to wear contact lenses. You'll also talk about how to wear contact lenses safely.
Getting Fitted for Contact Lenses
After your vision check, our eye doctor will measure the surface of your eye using specialized equipment. Using these measurements, our eye doctor will select a few different sizes and brands of contact lenses for you to try. Then, you'll learn how to put the lenses into your eyes. This normally takes a few tries until you get the hang of it, and our eye care specialist will be right there with you to give you tips and advice. For most patients, it takes trying a few different brands of lenses to find ones that fit comfortably. When the lens fits your eye correctly, you won't be able to feel it. You'll simply have clear vision, just like when you wear your glasses. After your fitting is complete, our eye doctor will give you your contact lens prescription for the brand and size of lens that fits you best.
